When planning the lush landscape for your Covenant Hills home, you may want to consider greening your garden with a few California native plants.

Southern California boasts a bevy of beautiful native shrubs, perennials and annuals that you can easily incorporate into your Ladera Ranch landscape.

California Poppy: Selected as the state symbol in 1903, the yellow, orange or white cup-shaped flowers can be easily grown from seeds. Although they are perennials, they are often grown as annuals with flowers beginning to blossom in February.

California Redbud: With an ever-changing look throughout the year, the extremely drought tolerant plant sprouts red or yellow foliage in the fall, reveals a smooth reddish brown trunk in the winter and blooms magenta flowers on leafless stems in the summer.

California Lilacs: A burst of blue for your garden, this shrub is one of the most fragrant and colorful in California. It requires good drainage, tolerates sand and clay and grows up to six feet.

Cleveland Sage: This drought tolerant sage has a scent that carries up to 20 feet on a warm evening. The flowers, which range in shade from lavender to violet, bloom in early summer.
