Kick off autumn this Saturday with bratwurst, barrel races and a biergarten at the iconic fall festival of Oktoberfest. The second annual celebration, presented by the Ladera Ranch Chamber of Commerce, is bringing the time-honored Germanic tradition to the Ladera Ranch Town Green and infusing it with a fun, family-friendly twist.
Oktoberfest originated in Munich, Germany as a feast and horse race honoring the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese in 1810, according to the Ladera Times.
This weekend, Ladera Ranch will reinterpret the historic event through attractions and activities including the popular Weiner Dog races, bratwurst eating contest, pretzel toss and a performance by an authentic German Oompah Band.
Kids can decorate and race their own zucchini in the Zucchini 500 Derby and enjoy face painting, crafts and games, while the adults sample a variety of beers at the Tustin Brewery-sponsored biergarten.
Admission is free for children 12 and under, and $5 for those 13 and over.
